It All Begins HereTypeface Design: A Display Typeface
This project started as a personal exploration into display typeface design, drawing inspiration from Viktor Deni the Russian and Soviet satirist, cartoonist, and poster artist known for his bold propaganda poster work. The goal wasn't a full production-ready font, but a focused exploration of how his visual language could translate into letterforms: could the same boldness and hand-made energy that made his posters so striking work as type?
I developed a partial character set in a bold, hand-lettered style rooted in Deni's propaganda poster aesthetic thick, confident strokes and a graphic, poster-ready presence rather than the restraint of a typical text face. As an open exploration rather than a client brief, this was a chance to work purely from a historical reference and personal interest, pushing the letterforms as far as the inspiration would take them without the constraints of a full production font.
The result is a focused set of display letterforms that carry Deni's bold, graphic energy into type a personal exercise in translating a historical illustrative style into a distinct typographic voice.
